Chester G. Binney, 36, policeman, saved Ethel I. Sagenkahn, 24, and Lena Deutser, 12, from drowning, Harveys Lake, Pennsylvania, August 23, 1921. Mrs. Sagenkahn, carrying Lena on her back, stepped suddenly into water 25 feet deep while wading in Harvey Lake, and she was submerged with Lena clinging around her neck. Binney swam 55 feet to the two, who were then under water. As he took hold of Mrs. Sagenkahn under water, she grasped his leg. Binney freed himself and started to rise, but Mrs. Sagenkahn got astride his neck and held to him. He dislodged her with difficulty, but she retained hold of him. With Lena clinging to Mrs. Sagenkahn, Binney then swam under water with great effort 15 feet into wadable water.
