Chloe A. Wolfe, 29, telephone operator, saved Sallie F. Crouch, 2, from an enraged cow, Georgetown, Kentucky, April 18, 1914. The cow, which had previously made threatening demonstrations against children, charged upon Sallie. Miss Wolfe, who was walking behind Sallie, took a step and grasped the child and swung her away from the cow in time to keep her from being struck. The cow struck Miss Wolfe in the back with its horns, which were pointed and six inches long. Miss Wolfe was knocked down, and Sallie was thrown from her arms. The cow fell to its knees from the impact with Miss Wolfe but rose to renew the attack. Sallie’s father then reached the scene and felled the cow with a club. Sallie was uninjured. Miss Wolfe’s back was severely bruised, and her arm was broken, disabling her seven weeks. 12983-1288
