Christal E. Lynn, 42, electrician, saved an 11-year-old boy from being shot, near Savannah, Georgia, October 21, 1959. When an intoxicated man menaced the boy with an automatic shotgun, Lynn was attracted and attempted to dissuade him from any violence. As Lynn moved toward him, the man fired twice, striking him in the foot and in the leg. Lynn continued toward the assailant, pleading with him not to shoot the boy. The man fired again, striking Lynn in the side, and then grappled with him. After throwing Lynn to the floor, the assailant reloaded the gun and stated that he was going to shoot him again. A patrolman and four other persons arrived and subdued him. Lynn required extensive hospitalization and was totally disabled for more than six months. 44944-4327
