Clarence B. Shaw, 46, teamster, died attempting to save Cheney L. Plummer, 36, plumber, from electric shock, Carthage, Missouri, September 6, 1920. Plummer came in contact with a grounded electric light wire, which carried a current of 118 volts and was poorly insulated, in the basement of his home. The floor was of ground, and it was damp and muddy in spots. Plummer lay holding the wire with both hands, his hands were burning, and there were small arc flashes on and near his body. Shaw entered the basement in the dark with another man and started toward Plummer, but when he was three feet from Plummer, he came in contact with the wire and fell back unconscious. The wires were cut, but neither Plummer nor Shaw could be resuscitated. 20772-1677
