Clark D. Bishop saved Leonard G. Harris from being killed by a train, Atlanta, Georgia, January 10, 1948. Harris, 19, schoolboy, tripped and fell, striking his head and becoming unconscious, on a track on which a passenger-train was approaching at a speed of 30 m.p.h. Bishop, 25, trolley-bus operator, ran 29 feet crossing one rail to Harris, whose head and shoulder lay on the far rail, reaching him when the locomotive was 90 feet from him. Grasping Harris by his clothing with one hand, Bishop swung around astride the youth’s legs and with both hands pulled him to his feet and backward five feet from the rail, the locomotive then passing at unreduced speed. 41298-3544
