Claudius J. Walker, 21, student, saved Jodie T. Hatcher and attempted to save Howard R. Grundy from drowning, Miami Beach, Florida, August 2, 1928. Walker, who was a poor swimmer, waded from shore and then swam 350 feet to Mrs. Hatcher, 28, and Grundy, 44, both of whom were unconscious. Supporting them by means of the inner tube of an automobile tire, which he had around him, he swam with great difficulty 300 feet toward shore and was then aided by a man to wadable water. When he reached shore, he collapsed from exhaustion. He recovered, as did Mrs. Hatcher. Grundy could not be revived. (See case of HOWARD R. GRUNDY.) 28637-2377
