Clifford A. Kaiser died attempting to save Oscar A. Byrns from drowning, Holland, Michigan, September 13, 1913. Byrns, 75, fell from a rowboat at a point 150 feet from the shore of Macatawa Bay, and his boat drifted away. A man in the boat could not row and was unable to render any assistance. Kaiser, 18, student, ran 400 feet to the water, waded and swam about 150 feet to the boat, and climbed into it. Upon ascertaining about where Byrns had sunk, he dived from the boat and came to the surface about 40 feet from it. He was distressed and called for help. Before help could reach him, he went beneath the surface and was drowned. Byrns was drowned also. 13434-1047
