Clyde R. Dalzell saved Nelle K. Petersen from drowning, Bay Point, California, October 11, 1931. Mrs. Petersen, 47, fell from a yacht that was anchored into water 10 or 12 feet deep in Honker Bay a half-mile from shore. Dalzell, 42, rigger, heavily clothed, dived from the yacht, swam toward her as a current carried them farther from the yacht, and reached her 18 feet from the yacht. He tried to swim toward the yacht but made no headway and soon became exhausted. After some delay, the yacht was got underway, and soon after it was headed toward Dalzell, a life preserver, which was thrown toward Dalzell, drifted to him. Dalzell passed the life preserver to Mrs. Petersen and then lapsed into unconsciousness, but Mrs. Petersen held to his clothing a moment until the yacht reached them, Dalzell then being a foot under the surface. They were lifted on board, and Dalzell was revived. 31652-2623
