Columbus E. Sanders, 46, oil refiner, died attempting to save an indeterminate person or persons among seven from drowning, Bushyhead, Oklahoma, October 6, 1928. As a man and his wife and their five daughters were riding in a rowboat on Spring Lake 85 feet from the bank, the boat filled with water, and all fell out. The man held to the boat. Sanders, who was heavily clothed, waded from the bank and swam 30 feet to the boat. In the midst of great confusion he at one time had hold of two of the girls and was supporting them in one arm. In the meantime a boat was being rowed toward them, but before it arrived, Sanders sank. He and four of the girls and the mother were drowned. One of the girls and the father were rescued. 28830-2373
