Cornelius H. Bertrand, 17, office boy, died attempting to save Charles Zimmerman, 16, from drowning, New York, New York, August 8, 1909. Despite his brother’s call to him not to do so, Cornelius swam to the assistance of Charles in the Hudson River, was grabbed around the neck by him, and was unable to free himself.
