Dana Loraine Goodge helped to rescue Selina M. Stevens from attacking dogs, Tucson, Arizona, August 16, 1996. Selina, 9, was walking to a school bus stop when two adult, mixed-breed dogs attacked her. They took her to the pavement and began to maul her. Among those responding to the scene and intervening was Ms. Goodge, 33, nail technician, who lived nearby. She attempted to fight the dogs off, then, seeing them intent on Selina, she lay atop the girl to protect her. The dogs then attacked Ms. Goodge, inflicting a bite wound and abrasions. Ms. Goodge picked Selina up and ran to her apartment, the dogs following briefly before running away. Selina required hospitalization for treatment, including surgery, of numerous bite wounds. Ms. Goodge also was treated at the hospital for treatment of her injuries, from which she fully recovered.
