Dana M. Woolston died after helping to save a boy from drowning, Hill City, South Dakota, July 16, 1974. A 12-year-old boy was swimming in Sheridan Lake and called for help when he got into difficulty in deep water about 80 feet from shore. Woolston, aged 19, college student, was in the water and swam to the boy. A struggle ensued. Woolston was submerged briefly several times but took the boy about 20 feet toward shore. The boy then released Woolston and grasped one of two young women who arrived. The women took the boy to wadable water. Woolston had disappeared from sight.
