Daniel F. Moynihan rescued J. Franklin Slocomb, 17, driver, and Augusta, 19, and Franklin Slocomb, 1, from a runaway, Revere, Massachusetts, July 19, 1911. Slocomb’s horse became unmanageable and ran wildly for about a mile. Moynihan, 26, pianist, heard a policeman warning people off the street and saw another policeman step aside without trying to stop the runaway. He ran into the street, grabbed the rein near the bit, and bore downward with all his strength. The horse ran 60 feet farther, dragging Moynihan part of that distance, and then both fell. Moynihan received injuries which disabled him 10 days. 7049-1035
