Daniel J. Curtin, 15, water boy, saved Hulda Johnson and Hilda Elg, 10, from drowning, New York, New York, August 21, 1905. Daniel swam 10 feet to the girls, who were carried into deep water while bathing in East River, and after successfully overcoming the struggles of the first girl, returned and assisted the second one to shore.
