Daniel Joseph Fuqua saved an indeterminate number of persons from burning or suffocation, Council Bluffs, Iowa, February 15, 1978. At night fire broke out in a one-story frame dormitory used by railroad employees and occupied by Fuqua, 52, railroad conductor, and 15 other men. Fuqua discovered the fire, which was in about the middle of the building’s central hallway. As flames and smoke increased, Fuqua, clad only in nightclothes, proceeded through the hall, pounding on doors and shouting to rouse the sleeping men, all but one of whom escaped. 56691-6387
