Darrel L. Gibbons, helped to save David Bishoff and three others from drowning, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, July 20, 1978. David, 16, and three others were thrown into deep water in Lake Shoshone when a severe windstorm capsized their canoe and created waves as much as five feet high. Gibbons, 34, high-school teacher, and another man lashed two canoes together side-by-side. As the storm continued, the two men launched the double craft with difficulty, proceeded to where David and two others were clinging to their overturned canoe, and took them to shore. On a second trip, Gibbons and the other man located the fourth person farther from shore and returned him safely to the beach.
