Darryl Lindsay Curran rescued Justin E. Kellow and Dallas C. McRae from burning, Escondido, California, October 2, 1985. Justin, 2, and Dallas, 11, were trapped in a burning car after a highway accident. Curran, 33, general contractor, saw the accident and approached the car as flames fed on its front, rear, and underside. Reaching through the opened passenger door, Curran released Justin’s seat belt, pulled him from the car, then carried him to safety. As flames increased, Curran returned to the car and entered it. He disentangled Dallas, who was unconscious, from the steering wheel and took him to safety moments before flames engulfed the car’s interior. Both boys sustained injuries in the accident, and Dallas received second- and third-degree burns. They recovered. 60497-7067
