David H. Thomas died attempting to save Evet D. Mack from drowning, Jamestown, North Carolina, May 26, 1989. Miss Mack, 25, and two others were thrown into the water of High Point Municipal Lake when their paddle boat capsized. Miss Mack struggled in the water and yelled for help. Fishing from a nearby pier, Thomas, 30, bakery supervisor, immediately dived into the lake and swam to her. Reaching her, he pushed her toward the bank, then submerged. A man in a boat rescued Miss Mack and the others, but Thomas drowned.
