David Lloyd Tyndall rescued Gilbert C. Rincon, Jr., and three others from burning, West Covina, California, November 10, 1979. Rincon, 42, and three other persons were in a four-door sedan when it crashed into a concrete highway divider and caught fire. Flames were extensive when Tyndall, 33, building inspector, reached the scene. Conditions worsened and explosions occurred in the engine compartment as Tyndall removed Rincon and then each of the other occupants. In his rescue -efforts, Tyndall fully entered the burning sedan. Rincon and the others were hospitalized for their injuries and burns.
