David N. Black rescued Delores F. Brown from burning, Selah, Washington, November 12, 1979. At night fire broke out in the front room of a mobile home occupied by Mrs. Brown, 60, who passed out in her rear bedroom due to the heat and smoke. Black, 32, deputy sheriff, noticed the flames, which filled the front half of the mobile home, and broke in via a rear door. On his second try, Black, crawling beneath the smoke, located Mrs. Brown and took her outside. She was hospitalized for extensive burns; Black was treated for smoke inhalation. 57294-6491
