David R. Tibbs, 26, foreman, died attempting to save Antonio Costalgo, 28, laborer, from drowning, Amsterdam, New York, June 28, 1909. Tibbs and Costalgo were thrown into the swift current of the Mohawk River by the capsizing of their boat. When Costalgo cried out in distress, Tibbs, who had started to swim toward a pier, swam to him and was about to grab him when Costalgo threw himself upon Tibbs, and both were drowned. 4690-409
