David Richmond Jones helped to save an indeterminate number of people from assault, Long Beach, California, March 5, 2010. A man armed with a revolver entered a bank, approached a teller window, and demanded money from the teller. A male customer who was nearby rushed the assailant from behind as he started to mount the counter. He grasped the assailant, took him to the floor, and struggled against him for control of the gun, which the assailant fired repeatedly. Although the customer sustained a gunshot wound, he disarmed the assailant and threw the revolver aside. Another customer in the bank, Jones, 48, carpenter, had been seated at a desk about 25 feet from the teller window. After the shots were fired, he immediately ran toward where the men were struggling, en route securing the weapon. He then joined in the struggle to subdue the assailant by pinning the assailant’s legs to the floor. When Jones and the other customer discovered that the assailant was armed with a second gun, Jones continued to hold him as the other customer seized the gun and sent it across the floor. Police arrived shortly and arrested the assailant.
