Delores Brown Reed died attempting to save Frank Watson, Jr., from burning, Brooklyn, New York, January 15, 1978. At night fire broke out in a four-story brick building where Frank, 14, was asleep in an apartment on the top floor. Mrs. Reed, 34, another tenant of the building, pounded on doors and shouted warnings as she made her way from floor to floor. When she reached the fourth floor, where smoke and heat were increasing rapidly, she told Frank’s mother to get the children. After waking Frank and her other children, the mother took the youngest and fled. Mrs. Reed then was still in the fourth-floor hall, at the apartment door. The other children escaped or were rescued by firemen; but the bodies of Frank and Mrs. Reed were found inside the apartment after firemen had extinguished flames that had spread to the top floor. 56074-6343
