Domenico Florio died helping to save April D. Florio from drowning, Romeo, Michigan, August 13, 1995. April, 13, was fishing with her father, Florio, 33, systems analyst, from an abutment of a bridge that crossed Stony Creek Lake. A nonswimmer, April struggled in the water after falling from the abutment. Florio immediately entered the water for her and moved her back toward the abutment. April’s mother, meanwhile, jumped into the water to help, and all three struggled. As April and her mother were pulled onto the abutment by others, Florio submerged. He was shortly removed from the water but could not be revived. He drowned. April was taken to the hospital but was not detained, and she fully recovered from minor injury.
