Donald G. Riesenberger died attempting to save Kenneth W. Kefford from drowning, Point Pleasant, New York, January 23, 1942. Kenneth, 15, schoolboy, broke through thin ice on Irondequoit Bay into water 70 feet deep 500 feet from shore. He was 40 feet from firm ice toward the opposite shore. From near the latter shore Donald, 18, schoolboy, who could not swim, skated 2,200 feet to the thin ice and then on it to a point 15 feet from Kenneth, where he broke through. He was submerged but got hold of the ice. Donald’s brother tried to aid him, but the ice broke under him, and a man aided him from the hole. Kenneth and Donald were drowned. 39436-3259
