Donald Hollis Pallett attempted to save M. Bernadette Riley from being killed by a train, West Newton, Massachusetts, September 10, 1931. Miss Riley, 42, walked to the edge of a station platform, fainted, and fell across a track on which a train was approaching at a speed of 15 m.p.h. Pallett, 31, teacher, who was standing near the track, jumped between the rails, grasped Miss Riley by the shoulders, and sprang toward the platform. He was struck by the locomotive and knocked upon the platform. Miss Riley was caught between the locomotive and the platform and was so severely injured that she died two hours later. Pallett suffered a fracture of the right collar bone and other minor injuries and was totally disabled for 12 days. 31569-2636
