Donald J. Siegmund attempted to save George K. Reynolds from drowning, Leoni, Michigan, July 18,1932. While Reynolds, 28, factory hand, was swimming in Gillets Lake, he got into distress in water 14 feet deep at a point 225 feet from the bank and threshed wildly. Siegmund, 24, automobile accessory inspector, who was in wadable water, waded and then swam 100 feet to him. Reynolds grasped Siegmund with both hands, and both were submerged, Reynolds’s legs having become entangled with Siegmund’s. They rose and together were again submerged. With great effort, Siegmund got free and rose. He was winded, and while he trod water to keep at the surface, a man who was a very good swimmer arrived and aided him to swim a few feet to a diving platform. Reynolds did not rise and was drowned. 34120-2793
