Donald W. Steele died saving Jimmy C. Kelsey from drowning, Jetmore, Kansas, June 27, 1941. While wading in a pond in which the bottom sloped slightly, Jimmy, 8, lost his footing and was submerged briefly in water three feet deep 12 feet from the bank. Donald, 11, schoolboy, waded from the bank to Jimmy; and taking hold of him, he gave him a hard pull toward the bank. Jimmy then waded to the bank; but Donald’s feet slipped; and he was submerged, rising three feet farther from the bank in deeper water. After being submerged briefly again, he sank and was drowned. 39129-3226
