Dorothy Carol Nesson helped to save Robert B. Tucker, Jr., from drowning, North Weymouth, Massachusetts, August 16, 1942. Robert, 8, fell from a rowboat into the Fore River and was submerged three times in water 10 feet deep 250 feet from the bank, in a current of two m.p.h. Jumping from the boat, Dorothy, 10, schoolgirl, swam 15 feet to Robert; and there was a struggle, during which Robert threw his arms around her neck and caused both to be submerged five times. Dorothy sustained scratches on her chest and abdomen. She was unable to break Robert’s hold, but she supported him for five minutes. A young man who was a good swimmer reached them and took hold of Robert. Dorothy rested a moment by holding to the man and then swam 185 feet and took hold of a rowboat. After resting, Dorothy swam 50 feet farther to wadable water and reached the bank. The man took Robert to the bank. 39626-3279
