Dorris D. Giles saved J. Ralph Landgrebe from electric shock, Houston, Texas, July 1, 1913. Ralph, 12, schoolboy, attempted to remove a wire that was dangling from a trolley wire. He received a shock that threw him to the ground, with the wire grasped in both hands. A current of 500 volts of electricity was passing through the wire. Ralph’s hands began to burn, and smoke rose from them. Dorris, 14, schoolboy, the only person in sight, ran to Ralph and grasped one of his feet, although he knew the danger and had warned Ralph that he would be killed if he touched the wire. Dorris was knocked to the ground. He got two or three newspapers that he had been carrying and, holding them in his hands, grasped Ralph’s ankle and pulled him away from the wire. Ralph’s hands were badly burned, and he had lesser burns on his head and back. 11179-1075
