E. Earle Brougher, 54, teacher, died attempting to save Beulah I. Braden, 23, from drowning, Jefferson, Texas, July 3, 1916. Miss Braden became distressed in Big Cypress Bayou, and Brougher swam 90 feet to her and took her to the bank. They then tried to cross the bayou at a point where it was wadable but were carried into deep water by the current. Brougher supported Miss Braden while they drifted 310 feet. She then let go of Brougher and was drowned. Brougher sank shortly after Miss Braden and was drowned. 16823-1263
