E. Frank Doyle, 22, salesman, attempted to save Leland T. Atherton, 32, clerk, from drowning, Cranberry Lake, New York, August 13, 1920. While swimming in Cranberry Lake about 12 feet from the dock, Atherton became exhausted. He sank slightly and called for help. Doyle, a poor swimmer, swam 68 feet to Atherton, but as Doyle reached him, Atherton threw both arms around his neck and then became unconscious. They sank, and Doyle was unable to free himself. A man swam to them as both were under water and took them to the dock, Doyle becoming unconscious on the way. They soon revived. 20741-1808
