E. Michael Fitzpatrick helped to save Paul V. Doran from burning, New Shrewsbury, New Jersey, December 25, 1974. In a highway accident, fire broke out at the rear of an automobile containing Doran, 61, and his wife; and the flames quickly spread over the sedan’s right side. Fitzpatrick, 27, garage clerk, ran to the left side of the vehicle, reached into the front-seat area through the open window of the door, and began pulling Doran out but had difficulty because of his size. Another man ran to Fitzpatrick; and together they removed Doran from the sedan and took him some distance away. The other man returned and removed Doran’s wife. Soon afterward the entire automobile was engulfed in flames.
