Edna Mae Good saved Ella M. Dieteman and Elsie A. Young from drowning, Salamanca, New York, August 2, 1923. Ella, 16; Mrs. Young, 22, and two others, a young woman and a girl, fell from a raft on Great Valley Creek into water about eight feet deep. Mrs. Young grasped Ella, and they struggled 17 feet from the bank. The other young woman swam to wadable water, and the girl was drowned. Edna, 15, schoolgirl, waded from the opposite bank and swam 33 feet to Mrs. Young and Ella. She separated them but was grasped around the neck by Mrs. Young and taken under water. Upon rising, Mrs. Young released her hold, Edna then got hold of Ella’s hand, swam with her six feet to the raft, and helped her upon it. Mrs. Young was then four feet from the raft, and Edna drew her to the raft and pushed her upon it with Ella’s aid. Edna then swam and pushed the raft five feet to the bank. Edna suffered from nervous shock for several weeks. 24183-1963
