Edward B. Skomorucha saved Laura M. Harmon and Grace A. and Ruth M. Saunders from drowning, Wilmington, Delaware, July 17, 1932. While wading in the Christiana River, Laura, 15, slipped from a ledge into water 12 feet deep and drifted to a point 23 feet from the ledge. From wadable water, Edward, 15, schoolboy, swam 60 feet to her and then, holding her, swam 23 feet across the current to a pile. Laura was dazed, and others then aided her to the bank. Meanwhile Grace, 11, and Ruth, 13, got over the ledge and in a struggle drifted to a point 23 feet from the ledge. Edward swam to Grace, who then was holding Ruth under the water, and Grace put one arm around his neck. He did not try to free himself but started to swim toward the bank. He lifted Grace slightly, and Ruth rose and threw one arm around his neck. Towing the two girls, Edward with difficulty swam 25 to 30 feet to wadable water.
