Edward D. Slivinski saved Patrick Matinet from being struck by a train, London, Ontario, October 29, 1988. Matinet, 56, stood between the rails of a railroad track on which a freight train was approaching at about 12 m.p.h. Driving nearby, Slivinski, 48, electrical servicer, observed the situation, stopped his truck, and ran to Matinet. With the train bearing down on them without slowing, Slivinski grabbed Matinet’s shoulders and pushed him off the track, then cleared the track himself. The front of the train passed them just seconds later.
