Edward J. Butler, 32, accountant, died attempting to save Frederick W. Ryan, 28, and Leo A. Gorman, 26, clerks, from drowning, Prospect, New York, June 18, 1919. (See case of LEO A. GORMAN.) After Gorman had called for help, Butler jumped into the creek 10 feet from Gorman and Ryan. He was dressed and was a very poor swimmer. When he entered the water, he immediately began threshing and lost control of himself. He bobbed up and down and disappeared a few seconds after Ryan was drowned. 19692-1536
