Edward J. Ewing, Sr., saved Amelia Adam from being killed by a train, Winamac, Indiana, January 30, 1931. Mrs. Adam, 79, started to cross a track on which a passenger train was approaching at a speed of 15 m.p.h. Ewing, 51, railroad clerk, who was in the station, had anticipated danger to Mrs. Adam and ran toward her, reaching her midway between the rails. He grasped her under the armpits and pushed her ahead of him off the track. They barely cleared the front of the locomotive, the speed of which had been reduced slightly. 31714-2644
