Edward K. Yellman, Jr., rescued Beverley C. Fritsche from a runaway automobile, Alexandria, Virginia, May 20, 1986. Attempting to stop her car, which was moving in reverse at a service station, Mrs. Fritsche, 80, was knocked down onto its front seat. She held to the steering wheel as her left leg was dragged along the pavement. As the car, out of control, crossed the parking lot of an adjacent shopping center, Yellman, 29, service station attendant, ran after it. He threw his upper body through the driver’s door and turned off the ignition, then disengaged the gear. The car stopped just short of a plate glass window of a storefront. Mrs. Fritsche recovered from leg injuries.
