Edwin H. Spencer III rescued Paul Marshall from electric shock, Warwick, Rhode Island, June 5, 1970. Paul, 13, and Edwin, 14, their clothing wet from earlier rain, climbed into a tree and were sitting on separate limbs when the former attempted to retrieve a jacket from a power line amid the branches. Grasping the bare wire with one hand, Paul received an electrical shock. Edwin moved to alongside Paul, whose fingers were hooked over the wire. As he placed his hand atop that of Paul, Edwin felt an electrical shock; but he removed Paul’s hand from the wire. Despite Edwin’s efforts to prevent it, Paul fell to the ground. A man revived Paul, who had sustained several small burns.
