Elisha F. Scott saved James S. Davis from drowning, Cheshire, Ohio, June 24, 1924. Davis, 21, laborer, was accidently thrown from a coal tipple into the Ohio River, and he threshed in deep water 45 feet from the bank. A man, who was an excellent swimmer, swam toward Davis but feared to get within reach, and Elisha, 16, student, jumped, fully clothed, from a barge and swam 20 feet to Davis. Davis grasped Elisha, and they went under the surface. Elisha got free, and after they came up, Elisha swam 40 feet to a moored steamboat, taking Davis with him. 24387-1966
