Ellis Chancey died attempting to rescue James Crews from electric shock, Kingsland, Georgia, July 12, 1973. Crews, 33, was leaning against a pickup truck when a high voltage line overhead broke and fell onto the vehicle. The electrical charge held Crews against the truck. Chancey, 51, power company brush cutter, put on an insulated glove and ran to Crews. With his gloved hand, Chancey attempted to free Crews from the truck. Chancey came into contact with the electricity and was thrown to the ground. The power line was removed from the truck by means of an insulated pole, and artificial respiration was applied to Crews and Chancey. Neither could be revived.
