Ellis O. Braught, 24, teacher, saved Clyde R. Terry, 38, president of a military school, and attempted to save J. Kenneth Lum, 8, from burning, Aledo, Illinois, January 10, 1927. Braught was near the top of the ladder when Terry entered the room. He was affected by the smoke and feared he might fall from weakness. When the room was momentarily lighted by flame, Braught saw Terry on the floor. He entered, and Terry muttered that he had Kenneth. Braught dragged Terry to the window and pushed him out. Braught then was overcome and fell out of the window and down the ladder. He soon revived and suffered only slight burns. Later a fireman reached inside at the window and got Kenneth, but Kenneth could not be revived. Terry was seriously burned. (See case of CLYDE R. TERRY.) 29701-2401
