Elmar I. Alcott died attempting to save Battista Negretti from drowning, Torrington, Connecticut, July 21, 1923. While wading in a swimming pool, Battista, 17, factory hand, who could not swim, got into water 15 feet deep and threshed violently. Elmar, 12, schoolboy, who was much smaller than Battista, swam 14 feet to him. As he reached to take hold of Battista, Battista seized him around the waist, rendering him helpless. They sank and rose twice and then sank and were drowned.
