Elmer J. Hock, 52, oil- and gasoline-company manager, saved Jessie L. Haynor, 4, from being killed by a train, Wheeler, Michigan, May 7, 1926. Jessie rode onto a railroad crossing in a little wagon and fell from the wagon onto a track on which a train was approaching at a speed of 35 m.p.h. Hock ran 80 feet to her and lifted her from the track. He then lost his balance and fell but managed to clear the track just before the train passed by at slightly reduced speed. 27068-2241
