Elton C. Twork saved Stephen C. Czajkowski and Kenneth H. Clayton from being struck by a train, Kentwood, Michigan, September 19, 1996. Czajkowski, 30, and Clayton, 37, remained inside an automobile that, at night, left the roadway and came to a stop atop a railroad track. Twork, 24, security officer, witnessed the accident and went to the car. As he examined the men for injury, he became aware of a train approaching on the track, at 50 m.p.h. Twork pulled Czajkowski, who was unconscious, from the front passenger seat and dragged him away from the car. He returned to the driver’s side and removed Clayton from the car as the train grew closer. Carrying Clayton, Twork cleared the track just before the train, then in emergency braking, struck the car and knocked it 350 feet away.
