Eric L. Hahn, 17, clerk, saved Laurence K Hyde, 18, student, from drowning, Chisago City, Minnesota, July 2, 1920. As Hyde and Eric were paddling across Green Lake, their canoe was capsized by a wave, throwing them into deep water nearly a half-mile from shore The waves were 2.5 to three feet high. Hyde frantically grabbed the canoe, and Eric, after steadying it, made his way along the side opposite Hyde and pulled him upon the upturned bottom. As Eric then attempted to move the canoe toward shore, Hyde slipped off into the water. Eric dived for him and grasped him, and Hyde struggled violently, but Eric again put Hyde across the bottom of the canoe and supported him there for 25 minutes until a rowboat was brought to them from shore. 21999-1932
