Eva J. Stange died attempting to save Glenn E. Robison from drowning, Alderdale, Washington, August 4, 1929. While Glenn, 15, schoolboy, was swimming in a slough of the Columbia River, he became distressed at a point 150 feet from the bank. His father, who attempted to aid him, was pulled under water but got free, called for help, and started to shore. Eva, 17, schoolgirl, who was almost fully clothed and who at times fainted from overexertion, waded 10 feet from the bank and then swam 40 feet toward Glenn. She then turned, swam five feet toward the bank, and sank. Both Glenn and Eva were drowned.
