Evelyn Marie Wertz attempted to save Pauline F. Sunbury and Marian S. Clapp from drowning, Andover, Ohio, August 13, 1925. While wading in Crystal Lake, Pauline, 15, and Marian, 14, stepped into water 10 feet deep and struggled together. Evelyn, 16, student, who was a poor swimmer, swam 10 feet to them and took hold of Pauline. Pauline and Marian grabbed her at the head and shoulders and forced her under the surface. In a struggle that followed, she became semiconscious. She finally was rescued by a young man and was revived. Pauline and Marian also were rescued. 25698-2009
