F. Timothy Thomas attempted to save Floyd L. Walker from drowning, Pleasantville, New Jersey, August 4, 1969. Floyd, 6, who could not swim, fell from a dock into water 10 feet deep in a yacht basin in Lakes Bay. He floundered and called for help. Timothy, 11, schoolboy, jumped from the dock and took hold of Floyd, who tried to climb onto him. They were submerged briefly, and both took in some water. Timothy was unable to break away from Floyd, who continued to struggle. After about two minutes, Floyd lost consciousness and sank. A man and a 16-year-old youth were attracted and dived into the water. Before they could reach Timothy, he also lost consciousness and sank. By diving, the youth and the man located Floyd and Timothy. They were removed from the water. Both Floyd and Timothy were revived. After being hospitalized for pneumonia, they recovered fully.
